Re: Top Triple Clamp Alternatives?

@13SMT - I sent the ROX risers back as they weren't quite what I was looking for, and after looking at a couple of different bend bars, I ended up just leaving it stock. Not perfect but liveable, and with more time being spent on unpaved forest roads of late than when I first got the bike, the more ...

Re: Top Triple Clamp Alternatives?

Glad to help mate. Post your thoughts here when they arrive - I'd love to know what you think of them. OK, tried out the ROX risers in 1.75" version. They fit fine in general, but in fact gave more of an adjustment than I was looking for. Might have been able to make them work by rotating them furt...

Re: Is there a future for SMT?

I think it's more a "Travel" version of the SuperDuke 1290 R than a 1290 engine shoed into an SMT... I''d rather have 180 kg 990 SMT honestly. It's asking a lot on the weight front I guess, but when I see the 150kg Duke 690 I dream that it's somehow possible... Ninou Ditto; I thought the same when ...

Re: Top Triple Clamp Alternatives?

Thanks! Using the Rox Risers does look like a pretty decent alternative; I hadn't considered that at all. A 1 & 3/4" set are on the way!

Re: Top Triple Clamp Alternatives?

Looks like a 1290 SD top triple might just work. Got a quick measure on one at my dealer today and it has the same fork tube diameters and the same lateral width between fork tubes. Couldn't get a measure on the offset or the steerer tube diameter though. If those work, you'd have to use the top nut...

Re: Top Triple Clamp Alternatives?

Being short waist-up means my arm sockets are lower, resulting in a straighter, thus shorter distance to the bars than a longer torso'ed person would have. It would only mean further away if this was a sportbike position where you're leaned forward significantly, which I'm not on the SMT; I sit pret...

Re: Top Triple Clamp Alternatives?

Understand what you're saying, and yes it'll definitely get down a twisty road PDQ. Just put a bit over 1,000 miles on mine over a three day weekend in the NC mountains with hardly a straight/flat road in the mix, including a slight detour through the Dragon on the way home to TN for extra flavor. F...

Top Triple Clamp Alternatives?

Loving my new to me SMT, but am searching for a way to get the bars further away and down a bit. I like the bend pretty well, but coming from years of sportbikes find I can't get over the front as much as I'd like without really getting my elbows way back, and even just cruising around find the reac...

Re: OEM Side Bag Knobs

Thanks Brad,

That sounds exactly like what must have happened to mine, and in similar timeframe from new.

Re: OEM Side Bag Knobs

Yep, I figure they weren't tight from the factory and just vibrated out since they appear to thread in. Bought my bike from an individual, but it was effectively new, with less than 100 miles on it. Had a shade over 500 miles on it at the end of my 1st trip, so somewhere between there they escaped. ...

OEM Side Bag Knobs

OK, first day trip out on my new SMT; around 350 miles in the mountains - great ride, quite happy with the bike - purchase choice validated 100%! However on return, when unpacking my OEM side bags I discovered the push-pin knob thingys that fix the side bags at the bottom were both gone . So the onl...

Re: SMT owners in U.S.

Thanks - great job on the guide! Don't even have 200 miles on mine yet and am already looking for a way to get the bars lower and further away; nice to know I'm not the only one. SD top triple maybe?

Re: SMT owners in U.S.

Greets all - new to the forum, with a new '13 SMT in tow. First time off a sportsbike in years, so we'll see how me and my SMT get along! ;)
