Re: Newbie in Australia

A bit sad that i had to sell my SMT but happy it was bought by a guy who has previously owned SM\SMT's. I do have a spare fuel tank for sale. It's un used, comes with screw on fuel cap and decals. No fuel pump (of course). $300. pick up melbourne. Have it on ebay at the moment. KTM990 SMT Fuel Tank ...

Re: Panniers on my SMT

Hi. I didn't need to trim anything. But I had removed heat shields, fitted the SMR mount for the Muffler strap and SC project SMR mufflers. This made it easier for the pannier mount brackets because they are for the SMR. I haven't tried fitting them with the SMT parts fitted. If you've got the c-bow...

Re: Newbie in Australia

Yeah Ogden, I know exactly what you mean about some bike salesmen. Most of the local ones here are like that. Idiots. Kev, I preferred the MT09 over the XSR. I'm sure yours is pretty trick and goes well. I did consider going back for the MT but the special price he offered was only for the colour I ...

Re: Cleaner and oil for DNA Stage 3 filters

Basically, I haven't heard a logical or technical reason not to use only DNA brand. Using K&N cleaner and oil now. Good stuff

Re: Newbie in Australia

As my SMT gets closer to 5yrs old and over 90,000 Klm's on the clock, I decided that I need a run around bike for daily duties and small trips. That way I can keep my SMT prep'd for weekend rides and longer trips. I went to the local Yamaha shop and test rode the MT09 and XSR900. These bikes get gre...

Cleaner and oil for DNA Stage 3 filters

Hi guys. My DNA filters are ready for a good clean and Oil. I'm just about to buy some K&N cotton filter cleaner and oil for the job. I've seen a lot of posts elsewhere that you should only use DNA cleaner but I fail to see any valid reason for it. Anybody had problems with using the equivalent K&N ...

Re: Fuel filters for KTM 990 injection - real price, not KTM price

Bugger, just ordered a new kit from KTM at around $160 AUD. My 3rd filter kit in 80,000 klm/4yrs. Have any guys from here in oz bought the cheaper option?

Re: Newbie in Australia

Managed 13,500 klm's with the Angel GT's, amazing. Rear tyre still giving good grip at the end, much better than the PR4 did at 8k+. The front tyre still had a lot of tread but not feeling too good. I'Ve replaced the GT's with a PilotPower 3 on the front and another Angel GT on the rear. So far, goi...

Re: Newbie in Australia

I must admit that after putting 3000klm on the Angel GT's over Xmas, they now feel much better. I'm sure it's only because I'm getting used to the feel but they really don't have that excellent feedback and feel of the PP3. We've had extremely hot weather here lately also and the roads around the sn...

Re: Newbie in Australia

Yeah Ogden, Agee about the michelins. I loved the PR4's up until the rear around 50% worn. It would spin easily on centre compound and grip if the tyre went into the side compound. The PP3 is much better because the centre compound is much softer, I can push it hard and it grips until it's cactus. I...

Re: Newbie in Australia

I've got my SMT on the market now but not expecting it to sell easily because it's now getting close to 70,000klm. No prob ;) I've just fitted Pirelli Angel GT tyres after having PilotPower 3's for the last 20k klm's. Can not believe the difference in feel, mostly from the front tyre. Maybe the GT's...

990 SMT DNA Stage 3 MK3 question..

Hi guys, I'm running the DNA MK3 Stage3 Airbox on my 2012 SMT, along with SC-Project pipes. I'd like to fit my standard pipes some times and still use the DNA airbox, but using a MK3 with standard pipes is advised against by the manufacturer and others. The solution is to fit a MK2 top to my DNA air...

Re: Continental Motion sports touring tyres on SMT

I've done just over 6000 kms with the rear conti motion. It's pretty much knackered now, after mostly flat highway riding. I did take it on some gravel roads and mountain twisties, and it was just as good as anything else I've used. The tyre did scallop a fair bit but didn't affect handling at all. ...

Re: New Duke tourer?

I'm sure that this bike will fit my needs perfectly, come the end of the year. I found it too hard to give up my 2012 SMT for an adventure bike earlier this year, but i do wish they added a bit more suspension travel to the new GT\SMT. Curious to know if any SDR owners would consider trading their b...

Re: Newbie in Australia

It had a fuel pump problem that caused problems with throttle body sync?? KTM Australia replaced throttle bodies and I paid for fuel pump, it's run like a dream ever since.. Put the DNA stage 3 and pipes back on last week, loaded the #20 map. Good times :)
