Re: Water inside swingarm cavity
Looks like right where I drilled a hole on my 2014 model. I some tape over the hole and have never had any water come out since I drilled the hole. I have ridden in wet weather too.

Re: Anyone with BST C/F wheels?
BST wheels have been on my 1290 for over two years. No issues. Still love them. Will add that my 1290 is strictly a weekend bike with a total of 7300 miles. I have ridden in the rain and on some gravel roads with potholes. I try to miss those potholes but have hit a few with no problems.

Ordered some shims from Munn racing. Easy enough to install for peace of mind.

Re: 1290 Suspension
Even though I went with Ohlins in the back, the stock shock is not terrible. The front suspension is a bit undersprung. The problem I had was that the front and back suspensions were not in synch. The front would be too soft but attempts to add more compression and rebound as a bandaid just resulted...

Re: Do I want a SDR or SDR GT?
Nice to read about the feel between the GT suspension and a normal SD suspension. Finally got the suspension on my 2014 SD sorted and feels nice. Let interested in the GT knowing not a big improvement in suspension.

Looks like the same place I drilled a hole in my 2014 model. Maybe they got the solution off this page

Re: Accessories
Been in contact with them. Turns out Racefoxx in Germany and Motocomposites in Canada get some of their parts from the same manufacturer. Motocomposites asked for pictures of the part which I supplied and showed how it did not fit. Now they want me to send it back and they will cover shipping, but o...

Re: Accessories
I am reluctant to criticize aftermarket suppliers, but I have to put out a word of caution about http://www.motocomposites.com if you are ordering stuff for the 1290. I ordered a CF tail cowl, and a countershaft sprocket cover. The tail cowl grooves did not line up with the two white prongs on the b...

Re: Riding the torque as opposed to riding the HP
A common track day habit with the 1290 is to run it a gear higher than what feels normal. The bike has a lot more pulling power at lower rpms than a 4 cylinder bike but is not nearly as rev happy. I had a GSXR-1000 for awhile and found it in some ways an easier bike to track. Mostly because of the h...

Re: 1290 Suspension
Set the spring rate setting from 10.5 to 10. That seemed to be the sweet spot for my weight. Did a test ride after the change yesterday and was really happy. Have the compression and rebound set in middle of range and did not feel a need to change anything.

Re: 1290 Suspension
Finally got out for a spirited back roads ride on dry pavement. Huge improvement from my point of view. Overall, suspension now feels firm but well controlled. I have the spring rate setting at 10.5. Might experiment with setting it to 10 at some point. The harshness that was there with the stock fo...

Re: Track day advice, anybody!
One thing I learned many years ago in a Jason Pridmore school was a technique he’d use when riding a track for the first time. You pick a gear, say 2nd or 3rd and ride a few laps in only that gear. I’ve used this several times over the years and it works for me. You concentrate on your line, body p...

Re: Track day advice, anybody!
First off, ride within your abilities and experience. Do not get caught up in trying to pass someone and start riding over your head. If you are feeling tense and tight then you are going too fast. Try to ride smooth and consistent. Many track schools do not allow passing on the inside in corners fo...

Re: 1290 Suspension
Looking forward to your opinion after riding! Did you have any grief with the cap o'ring? I found it slightly too fat, looked like it would cut if we wound it up tight. Ended up putting the standard cap o'rings back in. Yes! Had the same problem with the same solution. Thanks for bringing that up.

Re: 1290 Suspension
Got the Mupo K911 25mm cartridges installed yesterday. Have the 1290 shop manual so removing the old cartridges was easy. Installing the Mupos was not that hard, but some instructions were a little vague. I ended up using the online video they have instead of the written instructions for 90% of the ...

Re: 1290 Suspension
OK was able to scan the instructions to a PDF file then do an OCR on the PDF then do a google translate on the PDF. End result is a PDF file with the Italian text now in English. So all good.
