Re: Newby intro ...1190 adventure

Hello all. Been a member here since 2011 but over in the SMT side. Since I use the T a lot more than the SM I went out and got an 1190 ADV.

Got a good deal on a very gently used 2014 model. Now I’ll be hanging out here with you lot.

Cheers.

Re: Unidentified plug under tank

if your not getting any error codes I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know if the Secondary Air System (SAS) is required in your country but that looks like the plug for the SAS Pump. A lot of companies the sell SAS removal kits sell a little resistor dongle that plugs into it. Maybe if your bike i...

Re: My SMT's dubious superlative

I'll be getting a used low mileage 1190 ADV. I obviously do a lot more of the "T" than the "SM" so I want more long range capabilities. More carrying capacity, longer range, etc. Plus the ADV has more units sold so there is a lot more aftermarket support and a greater wealth of how to on the intertu...

My SMT's dubious superlative

Good Morning All, After the new year my beloved SMT will be on the block for sale. Bay Area Hipsters being what they are, I am working on the marketing technique for the for sale advert. I will be listing it as the highest mileage SMT on the internet!!!. This is easily true based on the current list...

Re: I won't be recommending PR3s anymore

if you ride in the wet or hoon it up off road any the Conti Trail Attack > PR4s. They don't last as long but if you use the "SM" part as much as the "T" part they are the best.

you know....IMHO.

As much as I hate to be a necromancer of a two year old thread,

I replaced the stockers with mirrors from the 1190 ADV.

Quite an upgrade.

Re: howdy kids

it was much simpler than I thought. pull the clutch slave cylinder There's a little cross pin on that end of the pushrod. it's just a press fit so support the pushrod against whatever direction you apply the force to pull it out. I used a long screwdriver between a spot on the frame and the footpeg ...

So at 73000 miles the clutch pushrod seal popped smoke.

I'll report back when and how I get it fixed. 😐

Re: Black KTM SMT 990 2012 - 55,000 km (Anything I should be concerned about?)

Just hit 70000 miles on my SMT. The latest thing to let go is the oil pressure switch. Keep an eye on the o-ring behind the gear selection switch. 3 of the oil 4 oil leaks it has developed in the last 7 years were from there.

Basically I've come to realize that for the way I ride a motorcycle, the SMT does it best.

Lighting the flame

I recently returned from a road trip around southern California on the SMT. I had a little time to do some thinking on the way back home. I have been lusting after the 1290 Superduke GT since I demo'd one a few months ago. As I get my finances in order to pull the trigger on a $22,000 purchase this ...

I still have that oil tank with the buggered threads.

Anyone want it? It a low pressure fitting so a helicoil would totally fix it.

Motorpropnenent: It would be nice to hear what services you have made and problems (if any) that did occur during all the 67000 miles :-) /M At 3000 miles I crossthreaded the shit out of the fitting for the oil tank return line when I did my first oil change. I had a buddy that got a pretty killer ...

Re: FI light and engine cutting out

Take the fuel cap to a lock smith & get them to change the tumblers to match the new ignition key, if they cant do that get a blank key cut for the fuel tank that has no chip. I just cut the plastic off the old key and drilled out the chip. Then, quite by accident, I found the new key and old key we...

Re: FI light and engine cutting out

I had a similar issue. I had two problems simultaneously the voltage regulator and the ignition switch. The tumblers and contactors wore out in the ignition switch. It got to the point where I had to turn the key to "On" and then turn it back towards the "off" position until the detent spring put en...

Re: Where is this Oil Leak Coming From?

I have 67,000 miles on my SMT. I've gone through three of those O-rings so far. I suggest you get two or three when it's not leaking and keep it on hand somewhere. It's not a common size and so far I've only been able to source them from a KTM dealer. It sucks to be not riding, waiting for the shop ...

Re: Soft panniers retaining pin

The part number is 62012025035. Retaining Pin Assembly. They are sold individually. $27.99 USD from Scuderia.

I pumped that part number into google and came up with retailers in the UK and Germany. If you're in the SF Bay Area show some love to my local dude.

Thanks

Re: Soft panniers retaining pin

I have ordered a replacement set of these before. I can't find them on any parts fiche but when my local shop (www.scuderiawest.com) opens up on Tuesday I'll see if they can look through my old invoices and find a part number.

I'll post back then.
