Re: 2016 SDR stored off battery now throwing check engine light

I was told (by a service tech recently returning from KTM school) that the only way to clear an engine check light is to reflash the ECU. That's what had to be done on my bike. I had been to two different dealers and talked to three different techs and none knew of the previously mentioned hack that...

Re: Ordered CustomLED tail light

CustomLED is a great option. Brighter, stronger and programable so that EVERYONE behind you is altered to your braking and turning intentions. Also, 1/2 the price of an OEM which are junk IMO.

Customled.com taillight

Props to CustomLed.com and their taillight for the super duke. I just got mine and it's awesome! Much brighter than stock, stronger than stock (OEM easily breaks), costs almost 1/2 the price of the OEM and is programable with 10 different displays and strobes to get the attention of everyone behind ...

Re: Rear Shock Removal

Just installed my Super Plush Suspension revalved forks and shock. Excellent improvement in comfort without sacrificing performance. Ride harshness is GONE. Highly recommended for anyone with this bike.

Re: Loss of low end torque AR exhaust and removing exhaust valve.

My opinion. These bikes are the best right off the show room floor. A lot of engineering goes into making one of these and bolting on parts isn't always an improvement. In my case I just couldn't live with the stock exhaust note and backfiring so I held my nose and bought another full akrapovic sys...

Re: Rear Shock Removal

And please provide the specifications of the bolt and how it is used. It appears that the press fit bushing in the swing arm is the only bushing that can be moved, e.g. pulled back from the slot hole.

Re: Rear Shock Removal

Not sure exactly how this is used. There is an internal press fit steel bushing on the right side of the swing arm that projects a few thousands into the slot cut in the swing arm. There are not bushings, just tabs on the upper frame shock mount. I've sent the shocks off so I can't look at them. Is ...

Re: Rear Shock Removal

Problem solved. I just had to remove most of the exhaust, loosen the subframe and get aggressive. Shock mounts are almost a press fit.

Rear Shock Removal

I need to remove my shock and have a couple of questions for anyone who has done this. 1) Does the rear wheel have to be removed. 2) Will the swing arm drop away freeing the shock once the bottom and top bolts are removed. I have a Bursig stand and have shimmed the stand so that the rear wheel is ab...

Re: 1290 R. ECU re-flash.

Not surprising there are no responses. I did have my ECU reflashed a year ago because of the speedo inaccuracy. Same inaccuracy and now I have an "off road" driving mode? I've yet to find a good technical site for the RC8 motors. BTW, at the risk of highjacking your thread, did you have any engine l...

Re: Do you all tighten your rear wheel nut to 250nM? If so, HTF do you get it loosened?

The solution to the sticking wheel nut is to simply lubricate the threads with grease, then lubricate the tapered face on the nut and both sides of the shim washer and you will never again have trouble removing the wheel nut. Don't flood the surfaces, a very light even coat is all that is needed. W...

Re: SAS Canisterectomy throws engine light

I can't seem to find a solution to this issue even though I've talked to two KTM techs one of whom said he talked to KTM. Engine lights on KTM's do not have to be reset. My bike has the O2 sensors removed and Rottweiler dongles in place. One tech said the dongles were not throwing the correct resist...

Re: 1290 Suspension

This is strange? The spring on my 2015 SD shock has "170-185" printed on the spring.

If that chart # is kilograms of rider weight then the spring is appropriate for riders between 165 and 187 lbs. This suggests that the stock WP spring has the rider's weight printed in pounds on t...

Re: 1290 Suspension

James is bang on. Let the professionals handle setting up your suspension. That said, the suspension on the 2017 is optimized for a riders weight of MAX 165-170 lbs. that’s what it’s sprung for. If you’re heavier (like me at 240lbs for instance) NO AMOUNT of adjustment will make this system work. Y...

Re: SAS Canisterectomy throws engine light

I assumed this was the problem and even disconnected the battery for a day to see if it would clear the error code. But I did that before adding the 02 dongles. I will return to the service manager who read the error code and ask him to delete the code. Thanks for your help.

Re: SAS Canisterectomy throws engine light

The ECU HAD been remapped! It came remapped with a PCV map for a Sparks can. It threw an engine light. I then remapped with a map (again) designed by Dynamax with a map designed specifically for the Akrapovic full titanium exhaust and still throws a light. KTM dealers in Cali won't work on the bike ...

Re: SAS Canisterectomy throws engine light

Got the 02 dongles yesterday. Installed them and removed the 02 sensors and the light continues. The tech who checked the code said he thought the system was too rich but that's his seat of the pants assessment. KTM dealers will not work on the bike due to the SAS removal so I need to find a KTM sav...

Re: SAS Canisterectomy throws engine light

I found out the light comes from the O2 sensors due to the different mapping . The used PCV did not come with O2 dongles. Rottweiler has some and that will allow me to disconnect the sensors and correct the problem.

Re: SAS Canisterectomy throws engine light

Engine light is going off because of "wrong" air/fuel mixture according to ECU which even with dongle instead of SAS is getting more air into the mix and running too lean and needs flashing/remapping. It's not like BMW which ECU has autotune so it adjusts after this mods itself. I will have a tech ...
