Re: Help identifying a bolt on the cylinder head

Hi Mate. That nut retains the timing chain guide. I wouldn't touch it unless you're pulling the top end off.

Re: New SMC and SMT in 2021

Looks like they fixed the LC8 990's base gasket leak with this model. The barrel and case are the same assembly (source KTM Newcastle). Also notice the cases split up/down (Japanese) and not sideways like the 950/990's (British).

Handle bars slightly turned when riding

Got a small teething problem with me SMT. I only noticed it yesterday. When I ride along, the handle bars are not true. They are turned slightly. The right hand is slightly further and my left hand is slightly closer. It's only out a little bit, but it's there. Anybody else have/had this problem ? T...

Re: New to me SMT (three questions)

Good question. The two dealers I went two (first my first 990 and my current bike) always over filled the bikes on services because these engines burn a fair bit of oil in the first 15000km. They did this to prevent return visits if the owner isn't mechanical. I personally like to keep the oil level...

No ideas. You could try asking on netrider. Lots of knowledgeable people on there.

Re: Better late than never

Let me know the condition of your buckets. I doubt there will be an issue. I had issues with mine, although I suspect they got swapped at dealer :x. The next major, I'm going to drop the motor again and give them another inspection.

Re: Do you know DOMINATOR exhaust

Sounds like my Quill exhausts. Heaps of quality control issues. I ended up using the EOM brackets and using rubber and silicone as spacers. Do a search for Quill exhausts if you're interested in seeing my solution.

Welcome Still :). I would also inspect the tappet buckets if it's done more than 50k for piece of mind.

Re: SMT990 ABS Bleading the rear brake

Thanks GhostMile. Your tip removing caliper and making bleeder highest point worked a treat :D Ogden: Your tip bleeding at the ABS unit did not do anything. But thanks for the thought :) PS/ Took my bike for a test ride (in the hills) after the service. Holly fark, what a difference. The rear brake ...

Re: 2012 SMT DASH PANEL SPEEDO FREAKING OUT

That's an interesting one. I know my cluster is quite flakey. If I power on bike, then switch off the bike before cluster has time to do it's needle sweep, it sometimes forgets it's time and trip meter readings. Plus the temperature is incorrect for a few seconds. I'll keep that in mind not to flatt...

It is very narrow space and sometimes one has to "grease" them with soap water to make it fit.
Mechanical engineers call that an "Interference Fit" :)

Ok, no worries :)

Re: SMT 990, Too much oil..

Most dealers over fill these oil tanks after a service (particularly for the first 15000km) because the bike burns a lot of oil when it's breaking in. As a general rule, I don't over fill it - no more than half way.

Re: SMT Perishing clutch line - Aftermarket replacements ?

Ok, so I got around to buying and fitting this clutch line. I had to wait a few months for the supplier to get it in. 1.jpg The part was from 100moto.com.au (Magura OEM) and 60% cheaper than the KTM rebadged Magura part (basically the same thing). The old line went through the guts of the ECU and ma...
