Re: Misfiring after rain.. but fine after sunshine!

If the rain is monsoonal, and your tank cap seal has perished, it could be possible that water is in your fuel tank. Water is heavier than fuel, so it will float down to the bottom of the tank and get sucked in by the fuel pump. I'm guessing that the fuel pump filters would not be happy with water. ...

UK Helmet compliance question

Hi All A question for the UK members. Is this law enforced in the UK ? https://www.gov.uk/motorcycle-helmet-law "All helmets worn on UK roads must meet one of the following: British Standard BS 6658:1985 and carry the BSI Kitemark UNECE Regulation 22.05 a European Economic Area member standard offer...

Re: Change fork oil when?

I took my bike to suspension specialist to get mine done at 40000km. The oil was black, but the seals were in good condition. Probably didn't need doing.

My ABS did what yours was doing last year. My solution was removing the ABS fuses. Problem solved ;)

Re: Expensive failure After tune ecu first attempt.

Hi fulaSMT Sorry for late reply, I had logging problems. I've been trying to log in for a 2 weeks. Oh well. Is this the sensing power line that controls the SAS valve you have terminated ? (orange and a red/green wire ?) Could you have possibly shorted this plug out when you fitted the resistor ? 20...

Re: Misfiring ISSUE

It would be interesting to monitor your O2 voltages before and after this fault. Are you able to secure your notebook to the seat of your bike and take it for a spin to make it fault ? It's not something silly like a blocked fuel tank breather pipe ? What is the fuel pump doing when the fault occurs...

Re: Castrol Power 1 in Oz

Based on this thread, I decided to buy some for my oil change (a first time user). It was $99.95 at AMX Superstore. This oil kept on failing my clutch jet. As a result, my gear shifts were notchy and would get false neutrals. In the hills - when the engine was being thrashed - gear changes were ok. ...

Re: Oil Tank drain thread damaged

When you say flange, is that bearing/mating surface ? I managed to plug the leak. It was a lot of work. I took a day off work yesterday to do it. I tapped the coil thread slightly at an angle, so the bolt and plug hole bearing surfaces weren't flush. I spent a few hours leveling the bearing surface ...

Re: Fuel filters for KTM 990 fuel injection

My kits only came with the filters. But it doesn't matter anyway. What seals you don't have, you can reuse. I've serviced my fuel pump twice now. I reused all the seals. Nb/ Even the OEM kit I ordered had missing seals.

Re: Oil Tank drain thread damaged

Sorry to hear about your trip :( Europe sounds like a place where you can use 100% of that 1000SX. In Australia you would be lucky to use 10% of it due to the road policing. I really don't know why there is a market for these bikes in Australia without regular access to a race track. But most Austra...

Re: Oil Tank drain thread damaged

Hi poucher. I retapped and helix coiled my drain plug today. It's still leaking ffs :(. Thanks for your tips anyway. Once I get this drain plug sealed, I'm never going to touch it again. 98% I can live with. Really annoyed as well. The idea of an LC8 990 oil change is to remove the old oil with meta...

Re: Oil Tank drain thread damaged

Yep. Mine has finally gone as well !

I was wondering, why bother with this drain plug ?. Can the oil be drained from the oil line connector ?. If so, would permanently sealing the drain plug be a more reliable option ?

Re: ABS light won't turn off

I ended up pulling the ABS fuses out. Problem fixed . I just couldn't be bothered trying to fix a pointless feature of my bike. After you've flushed your brakes, you can emulate a special bleed by riding your bike at about 10km/h on your lawn and locking up each brake. A good way to test them a...
